ALEDO, Ill. — An Aledo family was displaced by a fire late Wednesday night. The Aledo Fire Department was called at 11:45 p.m. to the Brad and Kris Welch residence, 606 E. Main St.
“On our arrival the attached garage was fully involved,” Assistant Aledo Fire Chief Don Korns said. “It was also spreading to the neighbor’s house. We got it stopped in that garage, but there was heavy damage on that corner of the house in the kitchen.”
The family was home and was able to escape without injury, but the house also had a lot of smoke damage.
The exact cause of the fire is not known at this time, but it is not believed to be suspicious in nature, fire officials said.
“The house directly to the west of them at 604 E. Main also sustained some damage from the heat from the fire on the outside of their siding,” Aledo Police Chief Mike Sponsler said.
As a precaution that family also was evacuated.
The American Red Cross of the Quad-Cities area was called in to assist the Welch family, and they are staying with friends.
Firefighters were on the scene until 6 a.m. Thursday.
The Red Cross also responded to a mobile home fire in Muscatine, Iowa, about 7:15 a.m. Thursday. A stove fire caused minor damage to the kitchen of a mobile home at 54 Cyril Ave. One man was home, but no one was injured.
