Three four-star recruits are the latest players to make verbal commitments to sign with the Illinois football program, while a highly regarded offensive lineman from Texas has announced his intentions to sign with Iowa State.

In the past three days, Fighting Illini coach Ron Zook has received commitments from defensive end Corey Liuget and receivers Cordale Scott and A.J. Jenkins — all rated as four-star prospects on a five-star scale by Scout.com.

Liuget, a 6-foot-3, 270-pounder from Hialeah, Fla., is ranked by the Web site as the nation’s 15th-best defensive end prospect. He visited Illinois in October, but made his decision following visits to Florida State, Louisiana State and Rutgers.

He also entertained offers from Miami (Fla.) and South Florida.

Scott, a 6-3, 200-pounder, played at Glenville High School in Cleveland. He also had offers from Iowa, Ohio State and Wisconsin, while the 6-1, 172-pound Jenkins had offers from Florida, Georgia Tech, Louisiana State and Maryland. Jenkins played at Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville.

Iowa State landed a commitment Friday from David Grant, a 6-5, 280-pound offensive tackle from Killeen, Texas. Ranked as a ninth-best prospect in central Texas by Texas Prep Insider, Grant selected the Cyclones over offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Houston.

ISU coaches have also picked up commitments in the past week from 6-3, 325-pound offensive guard Adrin Haughton of Seminole, Fla., 6-6, 235-pound tight end Kurt Hammerschmidt of DeSmet Jesuit in St. Louis, 6-3, 185-pound quarterback Lonzie Range of Carrollton, Texas, and kicker Zach Guyer of Johnston, Iowa.

Illinois has 25 verbal commitments, while Iowa State’s 2008 recruiting class currently numbers 19.
