Water main break closes schools early

DEWITT, Iowa -- A water main break forced schools in DeWitt to dismiss students two hours early Thursday.
The break was found Thursday morning on 4th Avenue East in front of the Central Community High School and Middle School complex.
Ekstrand Elementary School also dismissed early.
A seventh-grade girls’ basketball game scheduled Thursday at the middle school also was canceled.
School officials said the elementary school dismissed early even though it was not affected because dismissing at a different time than the other buildings causes too many problems with busing. They had water at the high school and middle school during the day, but it was shut off after school dismissed to make repairs.
City officials said no residences were expected to be affected.
School officials expect classes to resume today.
