Man gets 8 years for DUI related death

An East Moline man, who pleaded guilty in October to three felony counts of drunken driving stemming from a fatal accident in November 2005, was sentenced to eight years in prison

Thursday.

Adam M. Mazola, 23, received the maximum possible sentence for the death of Joseph Lazaro Velez, 21, who was killed in the accident at 7th Street and 30th Avenue in East Moline. Two others were injured.

Mazola received credit for time served at the Rock Island County Jail since January 2006. He must serve 85 percent of his remaining sentence.

Mazola pleaded guilty in Rock Island County Circuit Court to three counts of aggravated driving under the influence.
