ANKENY, Iowa -- A 19-year-old Des Moines woman who was killed in a crash on Interstate 35 was drunk, police said. A young woman from the Quad-City area also died of injuries from the crash.
Police said Jennifer Peterson had a blood-alcohol level of 0.218 percent, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent. Peterson was northbound on I-35 on Nov. 15 when she made a U-turn and began driving in the wrong direction, police said.
Her car collided with a car driven by Elizabeth White, 19, of Ankeny.
