UPDATE: Fire caused a significant amount of damage to a Rock Island home this morning at 2908 12th St.
Doug DuBre, a battalion chief with the Rock Island Fire Department, said the fire call came in at 8:50 a.m. It took crews about 30 to 45 minutes to extinguish the fire.
DuBre said a fire marshal was on the scene this morning investigating. The cause of the fire had not been determined.
There were no injuries during the fire. A damage estimate had not been established.
“It was a significant amount of damage,” DuBre said. “We had to tear it up, because (the fire) got into the walls.”
DuBre said the fire also entered the attic, requiring firefighters to pull down portions of the ceiling.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

EARLIER STORY:
A fire damaged a house this morning at 2908 12th St. in Rock Island.
Rock Island firefighters responded to a report of smoke called in by a neighbor at about 9 a.m., according to Jim Fobert, assistant fire chief.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they saw heavy smoke coming out of the eaves.
No one was home at the time of the fire. The person who had been living in the house moved a day earlier, Fobert said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
