2 people injured in 3-vehicle accident in Clinton, Iowa

CLINTON, Iowa — Two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident in Clinton.

The accident occurred at 5:01 p.m. Thursday at 18th Avenue North and North 3rd Street.

Police said Austin S. Shirley, 16, of Clinton was southbound on North 3rd Street in a 1995 Ford Mustang and was stopped in the intersection waiting to turn left when his vehicle was struck from behind by a 1991 Buick Park Avenue driven by Benjamin M. Roseland, 19, of Clinton.

Roseland’s vehicle then crossed the center line and

collided head-on with a northbound 1999 GMC pickup driven by Chelsey M. Tinderholt, 19, of Clinton.

Roseland and Tinderholt were taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-Clinton, where Tinderholt was treated and released. Roseland was transferred to University Hospitals, Iowa City. No information about his condition was being released Friday. 

The accident remains under investigation.
