A former Quad-City Times employee accused, along with his wife, of stealing $1 million from the company for over a decade is set to plead guilty Wednesday, court records indicate.
Earl and Julie Beasley of Taylor Ridge, Ill., used shell companies in Milan and Rock Island to bill the newspaper for goods and services it didn’t receive, federal authorities say. They also used company credit cards to buy items from Cabela’s, a hunting, camping and outdoor equipment business, according to court documents. Earl Beasley was issued three company credit cards between 1998 and 2005.
A change of plea hearing for Earl Beasley is set for noon Wednesday. His wife, Julie Beasley, is scheduled to stand trial in January.
Earl Beasley was building maintenance supervisor at the Times from August 1989 until Jan. 19, 2007, when he was fired.
