United Neighbors Inc. has received a $56,266 Iowa grant to support housing counseling services to homebuyers, homeowners, low- to moderate-income renters and the homeless. The funds were made available by the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Housing Counseling Program.
Counselors help families and individuals improve their housing conditions and act as responsible tenants and homeowners. Counselors also help borrowers avoid inflated appraisals, unreasonably high interest rates, unaffordable payment terms and other conditions that can result in a loss of equity, increased debt and eventual foreclosures.
