Dr. Alveda King, niece of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., will meet with supporters of Republican Sam Brownback at his Iowa headquarters Friday.

King has been an advocate for civil rights and pro-life causes and is supporting Brownback in his presidential run.

“Defending the life of innocents is the most basic civil right, and I am proud to support Dr. Alveda King and her efforts on the pro-life issue, civil rights and helping people in need,” Brownback, a U.S. senator from Kansas, said in a statement.
