Office sought: Davenport, 1st Ward

What are the most significant challenges facing neighborhoods? How would you address them?

The most significant thing facing the First Ward is the West End Interceptor (west-side sewer diversion tunnel). We need it for growth and tax base. Improving main arteries in the West End, primarily Rockingham Road is very important. The other main roads needing updating are Wisconsin, Utah and Telegraph roads.

What's most important, providing basic services or adding amenities for residents and visitors? What approach would you take?

In the First Ward, basic service improvement is of the utmost importance. It is this ward’s time to see improvements that we deserve and need.

What are the city's most important infrastructure needs?

Again the West End Interceptor is very important to our tax base as well as citizens’ comfort.

How would you approach economic development?

Economic development is something that must be an issue supported by the entire council and not by one individual alderman. The city of Davenport must use all available tools to gain the higher-paying positions and companies.

Does the city have enough police officers? Are they deployed properly? What is the council's role in promoting public safety?

I am not qualified to determine if we have enough officers at this time nor can I evaluate deployment at this time. The council's role in public safety is to listen to the people as well as the police department and work together to make the best fit. Everyone is interested and concerned about the public's safety.

How would you handle situations in which you disagree with another council member or members? Or does it matter?

The most important thing for any council is to have all cylinders (councilmen) working together to make for a smooth-running engine. If I would have a dispute with another council member, it would be handled in private not as a public forum.

Should the Isle of Capri take over the RiverCenter South? If not, what should the city encourage the Isle to do?

I am not in favor of the casino in the RiverCenter South. It is my feeling that the casino should be a destination point and the RiverCenter does not provide that. Before we decide what to do, we need to get solid information from the Isle as to their ideas and plans.

What is your vision for Davenport?

My vision for Davenport is to improve in all facets so that this city will be a destination point for all of our citizens and a place where our young people want to stay and grow.
