Pipe bomb found in Milan

TODAY: (Updated 3:28 p.m.) A Milan, Ill., man was arrested by Illinois State Police Saturday night after he was caught with a pipe bomb near the Hennepin Canal.

Douglas G. Williams, 30, of 1511 Coyne Center Road, Lot 73, was charged in Rock Island County Circuit Court today with a felony count of unlawful use of weapons.

According to court records, two people were spotted setting off bottle rockets at 9:40 p.m. near the Hennepin Canal in Milan. A pipe bomb with one quarter ounce of gun powder was allegedly found in Williams’ possession.

Williams was in custody Monday at the Rock Island County Jail on $20,000 bond.
