The wife of the former building maintenance supervisor for the Quad-City Times has followed her husband and filed a motion to delay their trial.
Julie Beasley asked the U.S. District Court in Davenport to delay trial until November or December. Trial had been set for her and Earl Beasley, both of Taylor Ridge, Ill., on Oct. 22.
Earl Beasley asked for an extension earlier this week after the federal government produced approximately 2,500 pages of additional discovery.
The Beasleys face 78 counts of mail and credit card fraud, money laundering and the forfeiture of their house and Earl Beasley’s 401(k) fund.
Earl Beasley worked at the Times from August 1989 until he was fired in January 2007. The couple is accused of creating shell companies and submitting invoices to the newspaper for goods and services that weren’t provided.
