TODAY: (Updated 11:56 p.m.) Ten people have filed papers to run for mayor and three City Council seats in Bettendorf for the Nov. 6 vote, and candidates have until 5 p.m. today to turn in their petitions at City Hall.
In the race for mayor, incumbent Mike Freemire will be opposed by former newspaper reporter and utility company spokesman Greg Gackle.
Council seats up for election include the at-large position and 1st, 3rd and 5th wards.
In the at-large race, incumbent Lisa Brown and City Hall critic Linda Willareth have filed.
In the 1st Ward, incumbent Norm Voelliger and insurance agent Keith Kauten will compete.
The seat formerly held by Carolyn Koos, who resigned after moving out of the area, has attracted the most candidates. Ronald Solt, Kathleen Heninger McElhiney and James Stewart all are running.
Incumbent Debe LaMar, 3rd Ward, is unopposed so far.
Council members serve staggered, four-year terms.
