CLINTON, Iowa — A Clinton couple was injured Wednesday morning when their car was struck by a dump truck in the 1900 block of Lincolnway.
Harold John Edens, 88, was attempting to drive his 2003 Oldsmobile Alero across Lincolnway from the Aldi Food Store to Paul’s Discount just before noon when his car was struck by a westbound dump truck driven by Jay Allen Lange, 51, of Camanche, according to a report from the Clinton Police Department.
The dump truck was owned by Tom McManus Backhoe & Truck Service.
Emergency workers had to extricate Edens from the vehicle. He was taken by helicopter to Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening.
His passenger, Martha Lorraine Edens, 83, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-Clinton. Information about her condition was not available Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Traffic in the area was rerouted for about an hour and a half, Clinton police said. The accident remains under investigation.
