In celebration of the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, the Alaska Wilderness League will be in Davenport from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Greatest Grains store, 1600 N. Harrison St.

The goal is to plant 100 seedlings across the nation in commemoration of the forest’s 100th birthday. President Theodore Roosevelt created the 17 million-acre forest on Sept. 10, 1907. The forest is home to towering old growth hemlock, spruce and cedar trees, fog-draped mountains, rocky islands, magnificent glaciers, salmon-choked rivers and grizzly-filled wildlands.

Seedling choices at the Greatest Grains handout will include blue spruce and sugar maple.
