The Figge Art Museum received a $25,000 donation from a longtime supporter Thursday.

The Beaux Arts Fund Committee Inc. began in 1953 to support the Davenport Art Museum, predecessor to the Figge. Since 1961, Beaux Arts Fairs have been held each spring and fall. The next fair will take place Sept. 8 and 9 in downtown Davenport near the museum.

Tom Magers, chairman of the fairs and owner of Major Art & Hobby, presented a $20,000 check to support the Clear Your Mind: Contemporary Glass Invitational show at the Figge Feb. 2-May 11, 2008.

Additionally, $5,000 will go to the Figge endowment fund in memorial to the late Dr. Walter Neiswanger, a Figge and Beaux Arts supporter who helped form the museum’s Haitian art collection.

Figge Executive Director Sean O’Harrow said the museum and Beaux Arts have a successful “symbiotic relationship” of supporting one another.
