TODAY: (Updated 12:14 p.m.) The former mayor of Wilton was found not guilty on a federal charge of conspiracy to commit money laundering before the jury was given the chance to deliberate.

Judge John Jarvy made the directed verdict this morning after both sides rested in the trial of Richard “Dick” Summy. Summy, who served two years as Wilton’s mayor, still faces a count of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana.

Following two days of testimony, the jury went into deliberations about noon today.

Summy was arrested in September 2006, accused of distributing marijuana grown indoors by two Keokuk men, including one who was an acquaintance of Summy’s.

Summy bought the marijuana, usually in one-pound quantities, from Randy Anderson and Roger Houston, then sold it to a third-party, according to testimony. The third party was a confidential informant for law enforcement.
