With 1,500 volunteers scouring illegal dump sites and river banks, the Fourth Annual Xstream Cleanup netted 24.5 tons, or 49,000 pounds, of debris.

Cleanups were held Aug. 18 in 34 locations in Davenport, Bettendorf, LeClaire, Princeton, East Moline, Moline, Milan and Rock Island.

Volunteers collected 2,099 bags of trash, 2,745 tires, 20 appliances, 22 bicycles and 27 pieces of furniture.

Unique items gathered up include a shopping cart, volleyball net, sleeping bag, air hockey table, toilet, wheelbarrow, life vest, tent, deer stand, fiberglass boat, Barbie car, amplifier, LP tanks, mannequin, car door, 16 foot shelf, Ford truck hood, parking meter, railroad ties, and large 1950s-era metal kitchen table, and a Shop-Vac.

The event was presented by the Riverboat Development Authority, and sponsored by Alcoa, Waste Commission of Scott County, and Living Lands and Waters.
