BENEFITS BY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Davenport
Medical: Teachers can either sign up for single or family medical benefits. The district pays the entire premium for those on the single plan. Employees on the family medical plan pay $25 a month. Yearly deductibles are $500 and $1,000 for single and family plans, respectively.
Employees also receive extensive prescription drug coverage.
Dental: Davenport provides dental coverage for all employees.
Vision: Davenport provides vision coverage for all employees but only fully pays for single plans. Those on a family plan pay $18 a month.
Life insurance: Teachers are covered under a $20,000 policy.
Retirement: Teachers pay 3.9 percent of their yearly salary into the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System. The district kicks in an additional 6.05 percent.
Bettendorf
Medical: Teachers can either sign up for single or family medical benefits. The district covers the entire premium for those on the single plan. Employees on the family medical plan pay $111 a month. Yearly deductibles are $250 and $500 for single and family plans, respectively.
Employees also receive extensive prescription drug coverage.
Dental: Bettendorf provides dental coverage for all employees but fully pays only for single plans. Those who want family coverage must pay the difference between the single and family plan cost.
Vision: Not covered by the district.
Life insurance: Teachers are covered under a $35,000 policy.
Retirement: Teachers pay 3.7 percent of their yearly salary into the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System. The district kicks in an additional 5.75 percent.
Pleasant Valley
Medical: Teachers can either sign up for single or family medical benefits. The district covers the entire premium for those on a single plan. Employees on the family medical plan pay $67.50 a month. Yearly deductibles are $300 and $600 for single and family plans, respectively.

Dental: Pleasant Valley provides dental coverage for all teachers. Single dental plans are completely covered by the district, while those on a family plan pay $7.06 — or 10 percent of the premium — a month.

North Scott

Retirement: Teachers pay 3.7 percent of their yearly salary into the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System. The district then kicks in an additional 5.75 percent.
Moline-Coal Valley
Medical: Teachers pay a portion of the monthly premium for both single and family plans. Those on the single plan pay $35 — or 8 percent of the premium — a month. Teachers on the family plan pay $142 — or 12 percent of the premium — a month.
Employees also receive extensive prescription drug coverage.
Dental: The district provides dental insurance at no cost to the teacher.
Vision: Not covered by the district.
Life insurance: Teachers are covered under a $50,000 policy.
Retirement: The district pays the entire employee contribution into the Teachers Retirement System in Illinois, which is 9.4 percent of the annual salary.
Rock Island-Milan
Medical: Teachers pay a portion of the monthly premium for both single and family plans. Those on the single plan pay $87 a month, while teachers on the family plan pay $250 a month.
Employees also receive extensive prescription drug coverage.
Dental: Not covered by the district.
Vision: Vision coverage is included under the medical plan, and the cost to teachers is added into the medical insurance costs.
Life insurance: Not offered by the district.
Retirement: Under law, teachers must pay 9.4 percent of their annual salary to the Teachers Retirement System in Illinois. Rock Island covers 9 percent of that contribution for them.
East Moline
Medical: Teachers pay a portion of the monthly premium for both single and family plans. Those on the single plan pay $88.36 — or 25 percent of the premium — a month. Teachers on the family plan pay $450 — or 50 percent of the premium — a month.
Employees also receive extensive prescription drug coverage.
Dental: Not covered by the district.
Vision: Not covered by the district.
Life insurance: Teachers are covered under a $7,500 policy.
Retirement: Under law, teachers must pay 9.4 percent of their annual salary to the Teachers Retirement System in Illinois. East Moline does not cover any of that cost.
United Township High School
Medical: Teachers pay a portion of the monthly premium for both single and family plans. Those on the single plan pay $81 dollars a month, while teachers on the family plan pay $440 a month.
Employees also receive extensive prescription drug coverage.
Dental: Not covered by the district.
Vision: The district provides limited vision coverage at no cost to teachers.
Life insurance: Teachers are covered under a $25,000 policy.
Retirement: Under law, teachers must pay 9.4 percent of their annual salary to the Teachers Retirement System in Illinois. United Township covers that cost, with teachers paying nothing.

Days off: Teachers get two personal days; 15 sick days; five emergency leave days for serious, critical and non-critical family illness; and seven bereavement days for deaths in the immediate family.
Pleasant Valley

Length of work day: 8 hours
Days off: Teachers get two personal days, 15 sick days, 10 days for a serious illness or death in the family, and five days for non-critical illness in the immediate family.
North Scott

Days off: Teachers get two personal days, 15 sick days and up to 10 bereavement days for a death in the family.
Rock Island-Milan

Percent of general/educational fund spent on teacher salaries and benefitsSchool districts in the Quad-Cities pay for teacher salaries and benefits out of a general fund that is supported by revenue from the state and federal government and local property taxes. The amount of money districts receive for the fund, which also pays for academic programs and supplies, depends heavily on the number of students they serve.

Hourly average teacher salary by district
The Quad-City Times used teacher salaries for each local district to calculate the average wage for full-time teachers. The average hourly earnings are based on the average salary and the number of days and hours teachers are required to work under contract.
