Figge offers free teaching program

Teachers from all disciplines can learn how to use a free teaching kit for the new Figge exhibition “Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series: Selections from The Phillips Collection.”

The free program will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Figge Art Museum, 225 W. 2nd St., Davenport. The program is free, but registration is required by Aug. 31. To register,                   contact Heather at (563) 326-7804 Ext. 2045 or haaronson@figgeartmuseum.com.

Illinois teachers can earn three continuing professional development credits by attending the program. The exhibition will be on view at the Figge from Sept. 29 to Oct. 28. Presenters include Suzanne Wright, director of education, and Paul Ruther, manager of teacher programs at The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.

The first 80 registered participants will get an in-depth teaching kit that includes two DVDs and focuses on the Great Migration, the Harlem Renaissance and the art of Jacob Lawrence. A light dinner will be provided.
