An early morning crash in July that injured three 12-year-old girls and a 16-year-old boy landed a Rock Island man in the Scott County Jail on numerous charges.

Nicholas G. Anderson, 23, of 28 Brittany Lane, is charged with three counts of child endangerment with serious injury, one count of child endangerment with bodily injury, operating under the influence, no proof of insurance and failure to maintain control of a vehicle in connection with the July 20 crash. He turned himself in at the jail Thursday where he was being held on $33,600 bond.

Bettendorf police say Anderson was driving his Cadillac CTS with the four minors in the car when he lost control at the intersection of Dundee Lane and Stafford Boulevard and flipped into Stafford Creek at 4:25 a.m.

Investigators checked the car’s computer and determined Anderson was driving 67 mph right before the crash, according to court documents. His blood-alcohol level taken at the hospital following the crash was .214. The speed limit in the residential neighborhood where the crash happened is 25 mph, Bettendorf Police Lt. Keith Kimball said. The legal blood-alcohol limit is .08.

In the crash, one of the girls received a concussion, broken rib, a punctured or collapsed lung and a broken right lower leg, according to court documents. A plate was surgically inserted into her leg to repair the fracture.

A second girl suffered a broken collarbone, which required surgery to repair, and numerous facial cuts, according to court documents. The third girl received a concussion and several cuts to her head.

The 16-year-old received a broken jaw and numerous facial cuts, according to court documents. He had to have a plate surgically inserted into his jaw.

After the crash, Anderson told police he was the driver but later recanted, according to a search warrant seeking access to the crashed car.

Anderson made an uninvited visit to an ex-girlfriend who was hosting a slumber party for her 12-year-old daughter and her friends at her Bettendorf apartment, Kimball said. While the woman was distracted by caring for a younger child, Anderson offered to take the girls and the 16-year-old for a ride. The accident occurred as they were on the ride.
