Man charged after punching officer

TODAY: (Updated 11:54 a.m.) A Davenport police officer and the suspect he was trying to arrest landed on a busy Locust Street Wednesday afternoon after a brief struggle.

The suspect, Marquis A. Allen, 20, of 1411 Bridge Ave., Apt. 2, was charged in Scott County District Court Thursday with assaulting a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassing a public official.

Allen is accused of punching the officer in the chest and running from him after they landed in the street at 3:38 p.m. near the Iowa Street intersection, court records state. The officer had stopped Allen for a traffic violation.

Allen was apprehended after police chased him for several blocks. No one was seriously injured.

A marijuana pipe was found inside his vehicle, court records state.
