As a longtime community activist, I take the Iowa Caucus process very seriously. We need a new kind of leadership. I believe we need fundamental change in this country. This has prompted me to make an early declaration of support for the leader I believe should be our next President and to put my time, energy, and support behind Sen. Barack Obama. Sen. Obamas’ experience with community organizing shows he understands that it is up to the people to get involved and return this country to its democratic roots and promise.
Sen. Obama is incredibly smart and articulate and believes in using diplomacy before threatening and engaging in preemptive wars. He opposed this war from the very start, when it was extremely unpopular to do so and wants to bring our troops home responsibly. Sen. Obama takes no PAC money and is committed to campaign finance reform. Most of his donations have come from regular people. Only Sen. Obama lights a fire in young people and people outside of the political process.
Most of all, Sen. Obama gives me hope: that we can be a country that the world again respects; that we can have a President who cares more about people than amassing power or wealth; and that our political system can once again serve the people. If you have been in despair over the state of our politics, I urge you to read Sen. Obama’s writings, to have hope again, and to get involved in changing our country’s direction.
