DeWITT, Iowa — A Grand Mound teen was killed and four others were injured in a car accident Tuesday afternoon near DeWitt.
Easten Alter, 15, was driving a 2005 GMC Yukon southbound in the 2300 block of 320th Avenue west of DeWitt at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control of the vehicle, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle rolled two and a half times before coming to rest on the roadway.
Alter and three passengers, Dylan Hintz, 15; Tucker Lawson, 15; and Joseph Kazinski, 16, all of Grand Mound, were taken to Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt. Alter and Kazinski were treated and released, while Hintz and Lawson were in fair condition Tuesday night, said hospital spokesman Craig Cooper.
A fourth passenger, Mitchell Ertz, 15, was taken by helicopter to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street Campus in Davenport, where he died Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s department. An autopsy will be conducted.
Two of the occupants of the vehicle were ejected, but the sheriff’s department did not identify which passengers.
Alter was cited for violation of the conditions of a minor’s school permit and failure to maintain control.
