TODAY: (Updated 11:05 a.m.) A 28-year-old Davenport man was killed early this morning when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a utility pole on Northwest Boulevard.

Davenport police identified the motorcycle rider is Todd Joseph Barker.

The accident occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 5900 block of Northwest Boulevard, and the road was closed between West 53rd and Division streets until about 8:30 this morning while police investigated the crash.

The motorcyclist was heading northwest on Northwest Boulevard at an apparent high rate of speed when the accident occurred, according to a news release issued by Davenport police Capt. David Struckman.

The driver lost control of the motorcycle, and it went onto the right shoulder at the intersection with the former West 60th Street. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle, and he struck a telephone pole east of the roadway. The motorcycle slid another 125 feet, coming to a rest in a grassy area east of the roadway.

The driver suffered “multiple extensive severe injuries,” according to Struckman. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing by officers assigned to the Crash Investigation Unit.
