TODAY: (Updated 5:53 p.m.) ST. CHARLES, Ill. — The sale of the Swing of the Quad-Cities cleared a major hurdle Monday when Midwest League directors gave their approval of the transaction.
In a meeting held in conjunction with Tuesday’s all-star game, the league’s 14 directors met and asked questions of prospective owners Dave Heller and Bob Herrfeldt before affirming the recommendation of the league’s transfer and expansion committee to allow Mainstreet Iowa to purchase the club from Seventh Inning Stretch, the Kevin Krause-led company that has operated the franchise since 1998.
“We’re very happy and excited. This is another step in the process, but it is a big one, and we’re getting very, very close to the finish line,” Heller said.
The National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, the governing body of minor-league baseball, and the major-league commissioner’s office still must sign off on the deal before the sale is complete.
Complete coverage of today’s approval can be found in Tuesday’s editions of the Quad-City Times.
