News staff report

Get your bibs ready.

About 300 diners on June 16 will sit down to enjoy the tastiest product from the rocky coast of Maine as Bettendorf Rotary presents the Quad Cities first-ever LobsterFest.

Live lobsters will be flown from New England and rushed to Rivermont Collegiate in Bettendorf to be prepared for the event, from 6:30-10 p.m. The menu includes lobster, corn on the cob, boiled potatoes, appetizers and more.

Tickets are $50 per person. Money raised at the event will benefit the Christian Care Domestic Abuse Shelter in Rock Island.

To order tickets by mail, send a check to Bettendorf Rotary, 815 6th St., Bettendorf, Iowa 52722. Or, for more information, call President Carolyn Leutwyler at 359-5914.

During a silent auction, guests can bid on more than 120 gifts, event tickets, travel opportunities and other items — with proceeds to benefit the abuse shelter and other charitable projects the Bettendorf Rotary supports. Guests may inspect auction items before and after dinner. They will be displayed in Becherer Hall on the campus.

The Christian Care shelter serves 300-400 women and children each year, providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance and counseling. These services are provided free, with no assistance from state or federal funding.

Rotary is a service organization of people from different professions in the community with a common interest: The willingness to understand people and to help others.
