Clinton, Iowa

Fire breaks out at Clinton ADM plant

A power outage may have caused a fire inside a germ dryer at the Clinton Archer Daniels Midland plant Thursday night, a company spokeswoman said Friday.

The lack of power to the corn germ dryer caused the load inside to overheat, igniting the fire, spokeswoman Jessie McKinney said. Firefighters were called at 11:27 p.m. Thursday. The fire was on the second floor of a five-story building in the middle of the complex.

Corn germ inside the dryer and insulation on the outside of the dryer were both on fire. The fire was contained in 30 minutes, and fire crews stayed on the scene for about two-and-a-half hours. No one was injured, and the dryer was not damaged, the fire department said. McKinney said no production time was lost due to the fire.

Davenport

Boil order remains for parts of Davenport

A precautionary boil-water advisory remains in effect for residents and businesses in the area of 53rd Street and Jersey Ridge Road in Davenport.

Iowa-American Water crews repaired a water main break at the intersection late Thursday, according to the company. Street repairs are under way Friday. One lane of westbound traffic will be closed until sometime this weekend.

Iowa-American said the boil-water advisory applies to residents and businesses north of Belle Avenue near Culver’s Restaurant on Jersey Ridge Road to the 7600 block of Jersey Ridge. Side streets off of Jersey Ridge north of 53rd Street in that area also are affected.

Residents living on other Belle Avenues in Davenport that are south of 53rd Street are not affected.

Customers in the affected area should bring their water to a rolling boil for five minutes before using for drinking or cooking. For all other purposes, such as showering or laundry, customers can use the water as normal.

The boil advisory will be in effect until at least 8 a.m. today until water quality testing confirms its safety.

Customers may call the customer hotline at (866) 641-2108 for information or assistance.

LeClaire, Iowa

LeClaire enforcement and construction

LeClaire police officers are enforcing the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau’s special Traffic Enforcement Program, or sTEP through the Memorial Day weekend and into June. They are also keeping a close eye on construction zone violators.

The department will have extra patrols out for the sTEP enforcement through June 3. The city has two construction projects zones with a $3.3 million revitalization project underway in the downtown area and the other on a stretch of US 67, just south of I-80.

Moline

Boil order for portions of Moline lifted

A precautionary boil-water advisory for northeastern portions of Moline has been lifted.

The advisory had been in effect since Wednesday and was lifted Friday morning.

The area between the Mississippi River and 12th Avenue and east of 48th Street to the East Moline border experienced low water pressure Wednesday as firefighters battled a blaze involving a pile of old and rotten wood behind the Strombeck-Becker Manufacturing Co. Tests showed that no contamination occurred during the event.
