BURLINGTON, Iowa — P.J. Walters led four Swing of the Quad-Cities pitchers in a five-hit shutout Saturday night, edging the Burlington Bees 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel at Community Field.

Quad-Cities (21-15) moved six games over .500 for the first time this season while improving their road record to 12-12. Burlington (14-20) was shutout for the second consecutive game, and the Swing improved to 4-1 against the Bees this season.

The game was scoreless into the fifth inning when the Swing finally struck. Mark Shorey led off the frame with only the second Swing hit of the game, a double inside the first-base line.

After a groundout moved him to third, Jaime Landin roped a single to right with the infield in to give Quad-Cities the lone run in the game.

Walters (3-1) was in complete control during his five innings, counting 10 groundouts and three strikeouts among his 15 total outs. The righty scattered four hits without issuing a walk to earn the win.

Over his past five outings, the change-up artist out of the University of South Alabama has gone 3-0 with one save and a 0.78 ERA, adding 24 strikeouts while walking only two over 23 innings.

The rest of the bullpen made the run stand up. After tandem starter Elvis Hernandez fired off two innings while allowing one hit, Kyle Mura threw a perfect eighth. Kenny Maiques followed suit in the ninth, striking out a pair without allowing a baserunner to convert his league-leading ninth save in as many attempts.

The tough-luck loss went to Harold Mozingo (2-4), who allowed only one run on five hits while fanning five over seven innings.
