MySpace argument over ex-boyfriend spills into RI street

Rock Island police handled their second big brawl in three days Wednesday night when a large group of juveniles, primarily girls, got into a fight along 15th Avenue at 12th Street.

Police said it is a continuation of an ongoing feud between two groups of girls belonging to two different Rock Island families.

And for the second time in less than a week, Quad-City area police responded to a fight was related to an argument that took place on MySpace.com, a social interaction Web site.

In Wednesday’s case, the two groups were arguing on the Web site over an ex-boyfriend who no longer lives in the area. The brawl escalated when a girl from one group sprayed mace into a car containing four girls and a child from the other group. One juvenile girl was arrested on an outstanding warrant, while others are facing charges for their roles in the fight, police said.

Early Sunday, Rock Island police arrested seven men after they were involved in a series of fights in The District of Rock Island. Those fights erupted at about 3 a.m. Police called for reinforcements from the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police.

Davenport police handled their own fight May 5 that was spurred by an argument on MySpace.com. Police said the two groups of people, mainly juveniles, had been arguing on the Web site. Then, either by design or by accident, police said the two groups of juveniles came across each other at Vander Veer Botancial Park and a fight ensued. One person was stabbed.
