A former Quad-City Times employee and his wife, accused of embezzling more than $1 million from the newspaper, are now scheduled to go on trial in July.

Earl and Julie Beasley, 51 and 49, respectively, of 12201 Turkey Hollow Road, Taylor Ridge, Ill., are accused of stealing from the Times from September 1998 to January 2007. Earl Beasley was building maintenance supervisor at the Times from August 1989 until Jan. 19, 2007.

During a pre-trial conference Monday in U.S. District Court, a prosecutor informed the judge and defense attorneys that more evidence will be presented to a grand jury and that a superceding indictment may be filed. The trial date was moved to July 23.

A motion hearing is scheduled for Friday. Among the motions to be heard is a request by the defense that the couple have access to Earl Beasley’s Quad-City Times retirement fund.
