ELECTION RESULTS
Henry County
Henry County voters elected mayors in two towns, and aldermen and village trustees as well as school board members. Here are results of races that had opposition on the ballot.
Colona — In Ward 1, Dale Hillman, independent, had 119 votes to defeat Democrat O. Jack Richardson, 98. In Ward 2, Democrat Larry Swemline had 155 votes and Bonnie Chaney, independent, lost with 135 votes.
Galva — For mayor, Thomas Hartman, People’s Party, won with 357 votes over Jack Gregory, independent, 293 votes.
Kewanee — For mayor, James Burns lost to Bruce Tossell. Vote totals were 1,347 for Burns and 1,806 for Tossell. Voters elected Duane Gillespie, 1,959 votes, and Kellie Wallace, 1,590 votes, for two council seats, defeating Mike Yaklich, 1,339, and Shirley Leggett, 1,097. For an unexpired term, Andrew Koehler got 2,103 votes to defeat John Kolata, 932 votes.
Kewanee library district voters approved a request to spend $800,280 to improve the library building by a vote of 1,576 in favor and 1,566 against.
Alpha — Three village trustees elected were independent candidates Ronald Medley, 93; Barb Brown-Damron, 88; and Angie Althaus, 72; defeating Noel Cain, 39.
Atkinson — For village board president, Guy Pauley defeated challenger Ryan Lee Rahn, 188 to 146 votes. Three village trustees elected were Shad Sturtewagen, 239 votes; Charles Lotridge, 198 votes; August Junior, 170 votes; defeating Raymond Elliott, 152 votes; Randall Teerlinck, 84 votes; and Jeffrey Meyers, 51 votes.
Colona — Voters approved a measure to impose a 0.5 percent municipal retailers and service occupation tax, 536 in favor and 394 against.
Annawan School District — Four board members elected were Martin Dedecker, 193, John Chapman, 180, and Steve Foerder, 178, all of Annawan Township, and Ron DePauw, 124, of Mineral Township. Unsuccessful Annawan Township candidate Courtney Rico received 172 votes.
Galva School District — Four members elected were John Vandevelde, 629; Richard Volkert, 466; David North, 457; Paul Walliker, 438, defeating Teri Pankau, 398; and Chad Hodge, 288.
Geneseo School District — Three members elected were Douglas Ford, 939; John Puentes, 896; and Jackie Mickley, 797; defeating Ian Malmstrom, 571.
Wethersfield School District — District voters approved a tax increase to 2.60 percent for educational purposes, 702 in favor to 647 against.

Carroll County
Carroll County voters elected a new village president in Thomson and village board members in other towns.
Mount Carroll — John Boelkens received 126 votes to defeat Elizabeth Gaskins, 22 votes, for 3rd Ward alderman. A referendum to form a park district in Carroll County to be known as the Mount Carroll Park District lost on a vote of 232 in favor and 379 against.
Savanna — Tony McCombie won over Robert Fosdick for 1st Ward alderman, 51 votes to 24. Jeff Griswold won the 2nd Ward seat over Gretchen Law, 68 votes to 22. For a 3rd Ward seat, Merle Long, 86, votes defeated Gary Shanks, 29 votes, and Esther Phialmlee, 19 votes. For 4th Ward, it was John Fosdick, 47, to win over Amy Kauffman, 21; and Mark Klein, 44.
Thomson — Jerry Hebeler defeated Randall Starr for village president with 127 votes for Hebeler and 80 for Starr. The three village board members elected were Gerald Smith, 133; Fay Ashby, 128; and Brian Balk, 107. Also receiving votes were Arthur Donart, 105; and Donna Opheim, 70.
School board elections were uncontested in western Carroll County.

Mercer County
Mercer County voters decided a number of contested races on the Tuesday election ballot.
Aledo — Four council members were elected among eight candidates. In Ward 1, Robert Rillie, 203, won over John Swearingen, 95. In Ward 2, Don Zook Jr., 161, won over Pam Ricke, 72. In Ward 3, Richard Maynard, 359, defeated Steve Johnson, 132. In Ward 4, Randy Matson, 203, defeated Bill Loving, 69.
Voters gave their opinions in a pair of non-binding referendums regarding the future of Northside School. A measure to allow the City of Aledo to reacquire title to the former school, demolish it and spend money for a new municipal building was defeated 993 against and 241 in favor. A companion measure to extend a TIF agreement with the building’s owner to renovate the former school and keep the property on the tax rolls was approved with 950 in favor and 289 against.
Keithsburg — A three-way contest in Ward 1 went to Neil Nylin, 34, over Guy Brenkman, 18, and Davina Logsdon, 2. In Ward 2, George Askew received 55 vote to defeat Boyd Shaw, 39.
New Boston — Incumbent Mayor Dennis Dixon, 172, was unsuccessfully challenged by Rodger Raine, 74. In two contested City Council races, Mark Fourdyce, 49 votes, defeated Vickie Sedam, 46, in Ward 1; and Linda Brown-Perkins, 57, won over Leo Mead, 37; in Ward 3.
Alexis — Four candidates ran for three four-year terms — Brian Neice, 76, Wayne Bruns, 60, and Charles Johnson, 46 won over Curtis Moore, 41. For a two-year term, James Van Fleet, 61, defeated Carl Bruns, 21.
Sherrard School District — Three school board members were elected among candidates Jay Bizarri, 1,202; Lori Baker, 1,173; Angie Edmondson, 1,026; Lori Christensen, 930; Timothy Ayers, 921; Lori Maynard, 828; and Julie Gardner, 504.
Westmer School District — Four school board members elected were Greg Welch, 422; Stan Boruff, 362; Kristen Welch, 344; Michael Hedrick, 291. Unsuccessful were Tina Nelson, 287; Jennifer Dahl, 125; and Jeremy Dahl, 122.
Aledo School District — Three school board members elected were Laurie Benson, 1,047; Trisha Hank, 1,013; and Marta Tucker, 894; defeating Todd Line, 806.

Whiteside County
Here are results of contested races in Whiteside County:
Morrison — Robert Snodgrass, defeated William Urban for 3rd Ward alderman, 80 votes to 74. Scott Connelly edged David Zuidema, 88 votes to 86, for 4th Ward alderman.
Prophetstown — Lori Swanson had 55 votes against Dolores Francis, 34 votes, for 2nd Ward alderman. Danny Baker had 93 votes against Bill Uhler, 72 votes, for 3rd Ward alderman.
Rock Falls — Daehle Reitzel defeated Shaun McGrath, 100 votes to 63, in Ward 1.
Sterling — Retha Elston, 286, defeated Linda Marley, 197, for 1st Ward alderman.
Tampico — Larry Specht defeated Dave Fox for village mayor. The vote was Specht, 93; Fox, 51. Four village commissioners elected were Alan Wildman, 106; Darby Brown, 123; Kristine Hill, 111; and Daniel Wiederin, 100; defeating Tim McLoughlin, 80.
Erie School District — Rhonda Pannier, 213, and Mike Heun, 236, were elected to unexpired 2-year terms, with Danny Rick finishing with 121 votes. Gail Young, 205; Tammy Tegeler, 231; and Patrick Ryan, 188, were elected to four-year terms, with Joe Weaver finishing with 156 votes and Karen Carlson with 108.
River Bend School District — Edward Cole, 202; Chris Barnett, 175; Larry St. Ores, 193; and Wendy Ottens, 169, were elected, with Mark Wade finishing with 152 votes.
Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico School District — Ryan Inskeep, 436; Pamela Scanlan, 428; and Gerald Halpin, 516, were elected, with Michael Fisk receiving 420 votes.
Sterling School District — Robert Allen, 2,574, and Gail Dancey, 2,559, were elected, with Daniel Smith Jr. receiving 1,503 votes. A referendum to increase the education tax rate from 2.59 percent to 3.09 percent was defeated with 1,448 yes votes to 2,445 no votes.
Morrison School District — Four members elected were Greg Houldson, 627; Jim Prombo, 873; Jim Ridley, 840; and Ted Tilton, 642, defeating Dave Boyles, 434, and Joy Tegeler, 434.
Rock Falls High School District — Three members elected were John Brackemeyer, 532; Merle Gaulrapp, 497; and Jana Jacobs, 495, defeating Janet Stevens-Lindsley, 408.
