Two Bettendorf men accused of growing 176 marijuana plants in a house rented by one of the men pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Davenport to conspiracy to manufacture a controlled substance.
Plea agreements that accompanied the pleas of Dwight Arthur Perry and Charles Floyd Brumbelow were sealed after they appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. Brumbelow was arrested at the house in the 2900 Cyprus Drive on Jan. 3. Perry was indicted later.
A status hearing is scheduled for July 16.
Police searched the house and discovered what was described as “a sophisticated indoor marijuana growing operation” and the marijuana plants.
The basement operation had two growing rooms and one drying room, with supplemental lighting, ventilation systems and automated irrigation and fertilizing systems, according to court documents.
Electric bills for the house were about four times more than those at surrounding properties.
