(Thomas Geyer/Quad-City Times) Davenport police officer Thomas Hadden looks over a Mercury Marquis in which a backseat passenger was wounded by gunfire Saturday evening.

BREAKING NEWS: (Updated 8:27 p.m.) One person was wounded tonight in a shooting that occurred in the area of 35th and Marquette streets, Davenport police said.

The investigation is continuing, and police are searching an apartment building in the 3400 block of Heatherton Drive for possible evidence in the shooting.

Police are investigating the possibility that the incident started about 6:15 p.m. in the 3400 block of Heatherton when two vehicles began chasing one another.

The chase went northbound on Marquette Street. An occupant of at least one of the vehicles began firing into the other vehicle in the area of 35th and Marquette streets.

The driver’s side backseat passenger in one of the vehicles, a Mercury Marquis, was struck.

The Marquis then made a U-turn on Marquette, striking a Chevrolet Blazer and then racing southbound to Genesis Medical Center-West Central Park Avenue but did not make it to the hospital. It was stopped on Marquette, and the victim was taken to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street.

His name was not released, and his condition was not available.

Davenport police also have impounded a Ford Explorer that may have been involved in the incident. That vehicle was abandoned in the area of Clark and Heatherton streets.
