Work on a $6.8 million project to reconstruct Illinois 5, or Blackhawk Road, in Rock Island, from 38th Street to 24th Street is starting up again for the 2007 construction season, according to a news release from the Illinois Department of Transportation, or DOT.

Valley Construction Company began work on the project in July. The project is about 50 percent complete. The project should be finished by August.

The old two-lane roadway will be replaced with a four-lane pavement with center left-turn lanes, new storm sewers and traffic signals added at 30th Street.

The roadway will remain open during construction, but drivers should expect delays and be alert for workers directing traffic.
