(The Associated Press) Illinois coach Bruce Weber reacts during a Big Ten Tournament game Saturday. Weber and the Illini have landed a 12 seed in the NCAA playoffs.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois landed its eighth-straight NCAA tournament bid during Selection Sunday, earning the No. 12 seed in the West regional.

The Illini (23-11, 9-7 Big Ten) were considered a bubble team through much of their season, but a trip to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament and a winning conference record turned out to be enough to put the Illini on the NCAA bracket.

Illinois defeated Penn State in the opening round of the Big Ten tourney, then topped Indiana before falling 53-41 to Wisconsin, the eventual runner-up.

The Badgers are the No. 2 seed in the Midwest regional while the Hoosiers, who twice fell to Illinois, got the No. 7 seed in the West.
