Investigators have identified the woman whose body was found in an isolated farm field west of Lake Canyada over the weekend but aren’t releasing her name until family members are notified.

The death is being investigated by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department as a homicide. An autopsy was performed Monday afternoon in Rockford.

A cause of death hasn’t been released and little information will likely be released on the woman’s death because of the sensitive nature of the investigation, Scott County Attorney Bill Davis said. The woman was from the area and wasn’t married.

“We are going to keep it close to the vest,” he said. “It is a whodunnit.

“We have people of interest, but no real suspect.”

The woman’s body was found by a farmer in the 15000 block of 100th Ave., Davenport, about 4 p.m. Saturday. The farmer described the woman’s body as lying face down in a fetal position near a patch of burned grass.
