I just wanted to write a letter about a program called SUMMIT. SUMMIT is located in Davenport and is a boot camp for young men who have made negative choices in their lives. They are sent to SUMMIT to learn to make positive changes in their life and teach them how to do so.
You might have seen SUMMIT helping out in our community many times. There are many services that SUMMIT provides to help us young men get back on track in life. For example, they provide GED classes and CADS and independent living skills. There is therapy for those who have family issues or issues in general.
They teach us self-discipline, structure, appropriate manners, respect for others, teamwork and communication skills.
The reason I’m writing this letter is because SUMMIT is an excellent program that helps young men become better citizens and helps them reach their full potential.
Sometimes people look at us like we are criminals, but 90 percent of us change while we’re at SUMMIT. I’m not saying we are all perfect, but give us a chance.
