MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Possibly threatening graffiti found in a restroom at Maquoketa Community High School has prompted an investigation and some safety measures.
Maquoketa School District Superintendent Kim Huckstadt said janitors found graffiti Monday night on the wall in restrooms near the music and band rooms. He called the graffiti “of a threatening nature.”
The message said, “Nothing will be the same — 12/15-06.” Huckstadt said there was an accompanying stick figure that appeared to be an individual with weapons.
Maquoketa Police Chief Brad Koranda said police are doing a full-scale investigation.
On Monday night, a girls basketball game and another meeting were held at the high school. The building was open to the public all day and evening.
No classes are scheduled today because of an in-service day for teachers. Classes will be held as planned Thursday and Friday, and police officers will be on-duty during the school day.
Koranda said a thorough search of all the buildings in the district is being conducted. Nothing had been found as of Tuesday evening.
Anyone with information about the graffiti is asked to call Maquoketa police at (563) 652-2468, school officials at (563) 652-2984 or Jackson County Crime Stoppers at (563) 652-2212. Callers remain anonymous with Crime Stoppers, and rewards may be issued.
