CLINTON, Iowa — A Clinton man has pleaded guilty to robbing a Clinton store and attacking the clerk with a rock.

Eric S. Harlston, 37, was charged with first-degree robbery and attempted murder. During the robbery at the Cigarette Outlet, 1606 Camanche Ave., Harlston used a rock about the size of a softball to strike store clerk Mariah Huycke in the head several times, according to court records.

After the attack, Huycke said she suffered from dizzy spells and headaches.

Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf said Harlston entered a guilty plea to the robbery charge and the attempted murder charge will be dropped when Harlston is sentenced Jan. 4.

First-degree robbery is a Class B felony, punishable by a maximum of 25 years in prison.
