DES MOINES — Gov. Tom Vilsack has tapped a Cedar Rapids judge to serve on the Iowa Court of Appeals and a Davenport lawyer as a district court judge.

Vilsack announced Monday he chose District Judge David Baker to fill a vacancy on the state’s second-highest court. Baker’s appointment is effective immediately.

Baker fills a slot vacated by Judge Daryl Hecht, who recently was sworn in to the Iowa Supreme Court.

Baker joined the bench in 2004 after 25 years in private legal practice. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Iowa and his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law.

Vilsack on Monday also appointed two women to the district court bench.

n Marlita Greve will serve as a district judge in the 7th Judicial District, which includes Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine and Scott counties. Greve replaces John A. Nahra, who retired last month.

Greve has specialized in labor and employment law as a partner in the O’Brien & Greve law firm in Davenport since 2000.

n Marsha Bergan, who has worked as a magistrate in Johnson County since 1988, will serve as a district judge in the 6th Judicial District. The district includes Tama, Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones and Linn counties.
