Genesis risk manager receives state award

Genesis Risk Management Specialist Marie Schumacher received the S.A. Gross Risk Management Award from Illinois Risk Management Services.
The award recognizes risk managers for their contribution to the risk management program at their facility. Schumacher was awarded a plaque and Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, will receive $1,000 to be used toward patient safety or quality initiatives.
Schumacher submitted two patient safety initiatives. A patient safety hotline was established that allows Genesis staff to report errors and “near misses” of errors in patient care. Another was the “Instruction Zone,” which is a monthly educational tool for medication administration safety.
