One person is dead following a weekend accident near the Mercer/Knox county line, according to a Mercer County Sheriff’s Department report.

The single-car crash occurred on 20th Avenue, east of North Henderson at 2:45 a.m. Sunday. The identity of the victim will not be released until  an autopsy and notification of family, Mercer County Coroner Ron McNall said.

Another person suffered severe injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg. The identity of that victim also is being withheld. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department received assistance at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Rio Fire Department, Tri-County Ambulance and Illinois State Police.
