TODAY: (Updated 5:14 p.m.) A student at J.B. Young Intermediate School in Davenport allegedly brought a gun to school today, police said today.

(VIDEO: Police brief the media after the event.)

The student was questioned by a police officer after acting suspiciously, authorities said. During questioning, he became combative and got into a scuffle with the officer. A gun fell onto the floor and underneath a table.

He will be criminally charged, said Capt. David Struckman.

“The teacher identified the problem, they notified the administration, who notified Cpl. (Mike) Cole. He was isolated him from rest of student body,” he said. “It was done by the book.”

During a second, unrelated incident today, a female student assaulted two faculty members, Struckman said. A third student was also disruptive, requiring a call for police assistance, he added.
