DES MOINES — Today marks the deadline for returning an absentee ballot by mail, the Iowa Secretary of State’s office announced.
Ballots that are mailed must be postmarked by Nov. 6 to be counted. If the postmark is Election Day or later, the ballot will not be counted. Iowans may deliver their own absentee ballot to their county auditor’s office or send the ballot with a registered absentee ballot courier. The registered courier must provide a receipt for the ballot. Unless the absentee ballot is mailed, it must be received before the polls close Tuesday night.
The total number of absentee ballot request this year has passed the number of absentee ballots cast in the 2002 midterm election. The number requested this year is 242,843, a slight increase from the 242,357 absentee ballots voted four years ago.
For more information on absentee ballots, contact your county auditor’s office.
