KEWANEE, Ill. — A Kewanee woman was being held late Sunday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident early Sunday

Nicole D. King, 23, of Kewanee, was in police custody on a preliminary felony charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

The accident happened at 2:18 a.m. on the 400 block of East 7th Street, police said.

Another pedestrian in the area found the victim. The Kewanee Fire Rescue Squad took him to Kewanee Hospital, where Henry County Coroner David Johnson pronounced him dead.  The victim’s name had not been released late Sunday, pending notification of his relatives.

About 11 a.m. Sunday, a Kewanee police officer on patrol discovered a parked, unattended red van matching the description of a suspect vehicle. King was identified as the driver.

Police said that the Henry County state’s attorney will review the case to determine whether other charges are warranted.
