CLINTON, Iowa — A worker at the Archer Daniels Midland Co. plant in Clinton remained hospitalized Thursday after he was burned during an industrial accident, a company spokeswoman said.

John Hager, no age or address available, was working on repairing an electrical system when he was injured by a flash burn, or arcing of the electrical current, ADM spokeswoman Jessie McKinney said.

The incident occurred at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday, and Hager was transported by helicopter, said Battalion Chief Ken Schumacher of the Clinton Fire Department.

He was taken to University Hospitals, Iowa City, but no condition report was available.

City officials put most of Carbon Cliff on boil order

CARBON CLIFF, Ill. — Almost all of Carbon Cliff has been placed under a boil order, city officials announced Thursday. The only portions of the village not under the boil order are Old Orchard Estates, Merry Oaks, Villa Pines and Megan Park.

There has been low pressure due to a power failure at Pump House A on 1st Street. The water pump house feeds all water customers except those not under the boil order.

Residents in downtown Carbon Cliff, Cliff Heights and Mansur Woods should bring all water used for drinking and cooking to a rolling boil for five minutes before using.

For more information, contact Village Clerk Karen Hopkins at (309) 792-8235.

Hy-Vee stores will take part in Veterans Day effort

This Veterans Day, more than 200 Hy-Vee locations, including those in the Quad-Cities, have partnered with the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes to raise funds and awareness for severely wounded and disabled soldiers returning from the war in the Middle East.

Between now and Veterans Day, residents can visit their local Hy-Vee location and purchase a “hero band” for only $2. All proceeds will go directly to helping needy wounded soldiers, with a priority placed on helping those in the local community.
