ALEDO, Ill. — The lone adult charged in an Aledo gang rape case last spring has pleaded guilty to his role in the crime.

Ryan Bell, 18, faces an extended term of eight to 30 years in prison. He will be sentenced Jan. 8. Bell pleaded guilty to one Class 1 felony count of criminal sexual assault Tuesday in Mercer County Circuit Court. In exchange for his plea, three similar counts were dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.

The charges stem from incidents involving a 15-year-old girl at a May 13 party in Aledo. Four juveniles, three boys and a girl, pleaded guilty last summer to their roles in the crime and will be sentenced Nov. 1.

The girl pleaded guilty to aggravated battery while the three boys pleaded guilty to attempted criminal sexual assault. Previous court testimony indicated that the victim may have been drugged.

Bell faces an extended term due to a previous residential burglary conviction in Henry County.
