MAC Cross country teams thrive in 4A district

Three boys teams and two girls teams from the Mississippi Athletic Conference will be traveling across the state to Fort Dodge on Oct. 28 to represent their schools at the Iowa Cross Country Meet.

The Pleasant Valley, Bettendorf and Muscatine boys teams placed in the top three at Class 4A district competition in Burlington on Thursday, earning their spot at the state meet.

For the girls, Pleasant Valley and Davenport North took home second and third, respectively, while Iowa City took top honors, the only non-MAC school to do so. The Davenport North girls are making their first appearance at the state meet. Davenport West’s Alycia Thurston and Burlington’s Hannah Lambert each qualified for the state meet finishing sixth and ninth, respectively.

Class 3A Girls District at Fairfield: Central DeWitt took fifth while Maquoketa was ninth. Trisha Miller from Maquoketa finishes fourth.

Class 3A Boys District at Fairfield: Central DeWitt and Maquoketa finished sixth and seventh. Mitch McDermott of Maquoketa rounded out the top 10 finishers.

Class 2A Girls District at Columbus Junction: Durant and Davenport Assumption advanced to the state meet by finishing second and third. Wilton and Lousia-Muscatine finished fifth and sixth.

Class 2A Boys District at Columbus Junction: Wilton is headed to state after finishing second, but Davenport Assumption just missed state with a fourth-place finish. Columbus took fifth and Durant-Bennett claimed seventh. Casey Robertson of Columbus finished first, his teammate Sam Chaney got fifth, Tommy Harris of Assumption took sixth.

Class 1A Girls District at Starmont: Bellevue Marquette finished third to make the state meet, while Northeast Goose Lake finished ninth. Morgan Casey of Northeast finished seventh and Katie Flogel of Marquette took 10th.

Class 1A Boys District at Starmont: Clinton Prince of Peace took top honors while Bellevue Marquette came in third. Northeast Goose Lake finished sixth.
